Music Education Philosophy

As an educator, I am passionate about instilling a lifelong love of learning in my students. My music education philosophy centers around students. In order for students to grow, they must have ownership of their education and be involved in how they learn and how they are assessed. I value students' individual talents, interests, and backgrounds and provide students with multiple means of demonstrating their growth. I value the process of meeting students where they are as individuals and helping them progress towards their goals. I believe that music classrooms are unique environments for learning critical thinking and problem solving skills and developing one's empathy. I am driven to help my students become the best versions of themselves by giving them a supportive learning environment to grow musically, professionally, and personally.

I wouldn't be the person I am today without having opportunities to create music with others. I love how diverse the world of music is and I believe that exploring its diversity creates a more open-minded and empathetic society. I admire how music promotes emotional intelligence by allowing students to reflect on various forms of expression. Now more than ever, I value how music brings people together. My main goal as a music educator is to provide my students with an encouraging space where they can grow not only as lovers of music, but as well-rounded individuals. I endeavor to help my students understand that making mistakes is an inevitable part of life and a valuable component in the process of learning. I hope that my students embrace a growth mindset and continue to develop a strong, lifelong relationship with the arts.
